Student Learning Expectations

OUR STUDENT LEARNING EXPECTATIONS:

Statement of Purpose:
At St. Martin de Porres School we seek to imbue students with an awareness of the sacredness of self, and promote their moral, spiritual, and academic growth that they may live life in the world with assurance and embrace all of God’s creation with love.

I. In FAITH we seek to foster students who:
A. serve God and the larger faith community by active participation.
B. are instilled with the values of school, community and home.
C. know service as an expression of faith.
D. learn a routine of prayer, meditation, and reflection.

II. In INTELLECT we seek to foster students who:
A. become lifelong learners and strive to excel.
B. promote teamwork and respect for the ideas of all.
C. recognize their own strengths and weaknesses, and who take responsibility for their own learning.
D. take pride in their work.
E. demonstrate a mastery of basic academic subjects and skills.

III. In COMMUNITY we seek to foster students who:
A. become good citizens by making decisions based on Christian values, recognizing their own calling, and serving their community
B. respect their own culture and the cultures of the world.
C. respect their own culture and cultures of the world.
D. recognize their role in the school and the larger community and exercise leadership.

IV. In SOCIAL JUSTICE/RESPONSIBILITY we seek to foster students who:
A. resolve conflicts peacefully through self discipline.
B. know their dignity is honored and that each child’s place in the classroom, school and society is respected.
C. are aware of justice and injustice in their families, neighborhoods, school, and the world.
D. are good citizens.
E. treat each person as a child of God.

V. In MAKING CHOICES we seek to foster students who:
A. promote human rights and stewardship of the earth’s resources
B. articulate ideas and perspectives clearly and respectfully.
C. promote health and respect for the spirit, mind, and body, and feelings of themselves and each other.
